Grand Vermeil Medal     posted 03/12/2016
On Tuesday 29 November, David Kinnin from the Amalgamated Northern Ireland Supporter's Club, visited the Youth Club with the Grand Vermeil Medal.  The medal was presented to the Northern Ireland football fans by the city of Paris in recognition of their support of the Northern Ireland team during this summers Euro 2016 Championship.  This visit was in addititon to the recent attendance by the Senior Youth Group at the NI v Croatia international match at the National Stadium.  David was very supportive and helpful in us securing tickets for this match and we thank him for his co-operation.  David also presented badges to the members who attended the match from the local Bessbrook NISC.

Our website is now up and running for the last 6 months and while we don't have visitor figures, some 270 people have listened to our weekly services via the site.  Thank you for your support.



Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month     posted 04/11/2016
Armagh Diocese is helping promote the Health & Safety Executive NI awareness campaign on the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning.  November is the month of awareness to warn that all heating appliances, whether coal, oil or gas fired, should be checked by a qualified engineer annually.  If you are on Facebook or Twitter please check out the HSENI page and share.

Census 2016     posted 23/10/2016
A church-wide census will be held during the month of November and will apply to Christ Church.  At each service during the month a Census Form will need to be completed by all people attending church.  This includes our young people and children, parents are requested to complete a form on behalf of their children who attend church.  This census provides very important information for the future management of all churches in the Diocese and the co-operation of all parishioners is much appreciated.



Bishops' Appeal     posted 23/10/2016
This year the Bishops' Appeal have financially supported the Christian Aid relief effort after the recent 'Hurricane Matthew' devastation in Haiti.  Traditionally we support the Bishops' Appeal with a special collection at our Carol Service in December.  Special collection envelopes are available which can be gift-aided.  If, however, you wish to make a donation to this appeal before our Carol Service, please contact our Hon. Treasurer, Mr John Cunningham.



Hospice Sunday     posted 23/10/2016
The annual Armagh Diocese 'Hospice Sunday' is being held in Christ Church from Sunday 30 October and through all Sunday services in November.  Last year this Diocesan-wide appeal raised £22,000 for the local hospices in the Armagh Diocese area.  Special collection envelopes will be available for your donations during the next few weeks.  Remember your donation can be gift-aided!



Keys Found     posted 09/10/2016
A set of keys were found in the church grounds on Thursday 6 October.  Please contact either Churchwarden to claim if they are yours.



New Season Jams     posted 04/10/2016
A small group of church ladies continue to provide home-made fruit jams to be sold in aid of church funds.  This is proving to be a very popular venture with tasty jams currently available with new-season fruits.  Jars cost £2 each, with all proceeds in aid of church funds.  Please continue to support the ladies and the church by purchasing the jam.



Mullaglass Harvest Services     posted 29/09/2016
St. Luke's Mullaglass are holding their annual Harvest Thanksgiving Services on Sunday 2 October.  Holy Communion will be celebrated at 10.00am with His Grace, The Most Rev Dr Richard Clarke, Archbishop of Armagh attending Evening Prayer at 7.00pm.  The Select Vestry of St. Luke's extend a warm invitation to all parishioners of Christ Church to join them in their celebrations.




Archbishop's Anniversary     posted 17/09/2016
A special Service of Thanksgiving and Holy Communion was held in St. Patrick's Cathedral, Armagh on Saturday 17 September to give thanks for His Grace, The Most Rev Dr Richard Clarke, Archbishop of Armagh.  This year, Archbishop Clarke celebrates both the 40th anniversary of his ordination into the priesthood (29 June 1976 - St Peter's Day) and the 20th anniversary of his ordination as a bishop (14 September 1996 - Holy Cross Day).  After the service, light refreshments were served in the Alexander Synod Hall.

Rev William McCracken, along with the People's Churchwarden and Hon Secretary represented the Parish at the service.  We extend our congratulations and best wishes to the Archbishop on these achievements. 




Sunday School and the Queen     posted 12/09/2016
Earlier this year the pupils and teachers of our Sunday School made and sent a card to HM Queen Eliabeth II on the occasion of her 90th birthday.  All were very chuffed when the Queen acknowledged their best wishes by returning a card of her own!

RAF Wings Appeal     posted 29/08/2016
Over the last few years, Christ Church has supported the Royal Air Force Wings Appeal.  Held during the month of September, parishioners will have the opportunity to support this worthwhile charity, with collection boxes situated in both church porches during services in September.  The Select Vestry thank you in anticipation of your generous support.

As the month of September draws near, our organisations are making preparations for their return after their summer break. 
All parish organisations deserve your full support and the following dates have been confirmed at present:

Tuesday 6 September: The Youth Club AGM will be held in the Parish Hall at 7.30pm.  Open to all parishioners and parents.

Thursday 8 September: The next 150th anniversary planning meeting will be held in the Parish Hall at 8.00pm.  Open to all parishioners.

Sunday 11 September: Sunday School will recommence in the Parish Hall from 10.30am to 11.15am.  For children aged 4 years + over.

Sunday 11 September: Creche will resume during Morning Worship for all children aged up to 8 years old.

Sunday 11 September: A special Service of Dedication will be held in Christ Church at 7.00pm. 
                                         The service will be conducted by the Rural Dean, Rev Canon Neville Hughes.  All parishioners encouraged to attend.

Tuesday 13 September: The Youth Club weekly activities will commence, with the Junior Group meeting from 6.45pm to 7.45pm
                                           and the Senior Group from 8.00pm to 9.15pm.

Thursday 15 September: Parent and Toddlers Group will commence in the Parish Hall from 10.00am to 12.00 noon.

Thursday 15 September: Mothers' Union Mullabrack Rural Deanery Service will be held in Ballymore Parish Church, Tandragee at 8.00pm.

Sunday 25 September: The monthly Family Service will resume on the last Sunday of each month, unless otherwise notified.




Somme Anniversary        posted 01/07/2016
To mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme and to remember the fallen soldiers from throughout the Commonwealth but especially the five parishioners of Christ Church, parishioners and friends met in church at 10pm on Thursday 30th June 2016 to light candles in solemn remembrance.  The candles were lit to the backdrop of solemn music and remained burning throughout the night into 1st July, the 100th anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Somme.  The five parishioners of Christ Church, Bessbrook who died during the Somme battle were: Private Joseph Chambers; Corporal James McCambley; Private Joseph Selby; Private William James Thompson (all died on 1 July 1916 serving with 9 Bn Royal Irish Fusiliers) and Private William Hanna (Sen), who died on 16 July 1916, serving with 2 Bn Royal Irish Fusiliers.  "Lest we forget".


















Rectory Works        posted 18/06/2016
Parishioners will be delighted to hear that the necessary works required to make the rectory meet the standard as set out by the Diocesan Architect have been completed by the contractor, Mr Eugene Keatings.  The next step will be for the Diocesan Architect to inspect the works and hopefully sign off the rectory as complete and ready for a new rector.  It is still envisaged that we will not be in a position to advertise for the post of rector until 2017.

Sunday School Awards        posted 12/06/2016
Congratulations are extended to Sunday School pupils, Victoria Martin & Dylan Fegan whose entries to this years CMS Ireland art competition received a Highly Commended award.  Congratulations are also extended to the pupils' Sunday School teachers. 

CMS stated "The Art Competition for the 2016 Children’s Resource, The Meeting Place, has closed and each child who took part has now received a certificate. There were almost 200 entires from 15 parishes and the standard was so high that we have awarded multiple prizes for each age group."





















Bring Your Own Picnic        posted 12/06/2016
A very successful and enjoyable picnic lunch was held in Christ Church Parish Hall on Sunday 12 June to commemorate the 90th birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II.  Following a special Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving which was conducted by Rev William McCracken, this family social event brought our parish families together for a very memorable event.  The service included hymns and readings which formed part two previous services celebrating her Majesty's birthday, the first at Wesminster Abbey in March as part of the Commonwealth Observance Day and the second at St Paul's Cathedral from the National Service of Thanksgiving.  During the service the Churchwardens presented each attending family with a commemorative book' The Servant Queen and the King she serves'.  Pictures from the picnic lunch can be found using the 'Gallery' link at the top of the page.



Queen's Birthday Service & Bring Your Own Picnic        posted 10/06/2016
Preparations are well underway in Christ Church for our special service of Thanksgiving and Celebration to commemorate the 90th birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II on Sunday 12 June at 11.30am.  The service will include hymns sung at Westminster Abbey (Commonwealth Observance Day - March 2016) and St. Paul's Cathedral on 10 June at the National Service of Thanksgiving, both held in celebration of the Queen's 90th birthday.  All the incidental music played prior to the service will also be from the music programme at St. Paul's.  A special Order of Service is being produced (sneek preview below!) and a commemorative gift to each parochial household will be presented at the service.  Afterwards a family 'Bring Your Own Picnic' lunch will be held in the Parish Hall.  Together we can make this a day to remember in the parish for a very long time.  Get out those picnic hampers and fill them full of good food to enjoy with us all on Sunday!




















Children's Day        posted 29/05/2016
Our annual Children's Day service was held on Sunday 29 May at 11.30am.  This special service was led by the children of the Sunday School with pupils taking the Reading and Prayers.  The Sunday School choir also performed their anthem ' All over the world'.  Mrs Jill Hunter, Mullabrack Parish, was the guest preacher and based her sermon on Daniel and the lion's den.

Mrs Eileen McVicker, Sunday School Superintendent, led the awards ceremony with all pupils presented with a presention edition of the Church Hymnal.  Best in class winners were Victoria Martin, Abbey McKelvey, Matthew Fegan, Amy McConnell and Matthew Gilcrhist. 

Mrs Janice Kinnin (People's Churchwarden) presented the recently dedicated Dobson Memorial Cup for overall best attendance at Sunday School and Church.  The cup was shared by Victoria Martin and Abbey McKelvey.

Presentations also were made to Sunday School assistants, David Goodland and Hannah McCaul, Mrs Jill Hunter and Trevor Kinnin.



Sunday School Fun Night and BBQ        posted 25/05/2016
Members of the Sunday School enjoyed an end-of-season night of fun and games in the Parish Hall on Tuesday 24 May 2016.  Games and food was organised by the ever-committed Sunday School teachers, for whose diligence we are extremely grateful.  Some pictures from the night can be viewed in our gallery page.



Dobson Memorial Cup          posted 22/05/2016
On Sunday 22 May 2016, People's Churchwarden, Mrs Janice Kinnin presented a memorial trophy cup in memory of her maternal Dobson family circle, Jack, Sarah, David and Carrie.  The cup will be presented annually on Children's Day for the best attendance at both Sunday School and Church.  Rev William McCracken accepted the cup and duly dedicated it for use in Christ Church.

Royal British Legion Award          posted 22/05/2016
The Bessbrook Branch of the Royal British Legion presented an award to Christ Church, Bessbrook on Friday 20 May 2016.  At their annual community awards, held every five years, the local branch acknowledged the support of our parishioners towards their annual poppy appeal.  Rev William McCracken represented the church in receiving the award from Branch Vice Chairman, Mr Allen Kinnin.

Painting and Cleaning          posted 13/05/2016
During the past few weeks a number of parishioners have volunteered to re-paint the entrance gates and railings around the church.  Additionally volunteers also carried out a spring-clean of both the church and parish hall.  We acknowledge all their hard work which is much appreciated by all as the gates, church and hall are all in 'tip-top' condition.  To all who helped please accept a 'BIG THANK YOU'.



Le Tour de Church          posted 01/05/2016
On Easter Tuesday the Diocesan Communications Officer, Jonathan Hull (Mullabrack Parish) visited our Parish Church during his Le Tour de Church which he cycled throughout the Armagh Diocese visiting all 88 parish churches.  Jonathan cycled 453 miles over 6 days and has to date collected over £6500.00 in aid of the Bishops' Appeal.  Here Jonathan is pictured during a well-deserved coffee break with some of our parishioners who enthusiastically cheered him on.  Congratulations to Jonathan and his family on their tremendous achievement!
